Review :

The power of original imagination is very exciting and often it opens us up to a fresh, new perspective. Knowing is one such movie that will make you think from beginning to end. Taut and highly imaginative screenplay from Ryan Pearson, as well as innovative lens work from director Alex Proyas, provides a bizarre feeling for the movie. It does not use daring visual effects, but nonetheless, instills fear in the audience.

The story is centered on a revered man, John Koestler, (Nicholas Cage) who happens to be the chairperson of a Historical Society. One day he is requested to examine something that has been dug out from the backyard of an elementary school. Incidentally, his son Caleb is a student there. To his amazement, he finds that these are a set of predictions made by Tykes 1958. He feels that it was not the correct moment for the time capsule to have come to attention; however, an underground water break was to blame for the accidental discovery.

The time capsule suggests the calamity tolls and dates of each major disaster of last 50 years. To his surprise, he finds three disasters hinting at a future date and among them, one happens to be pan-global disaster involving him and his son.

John tries to suggest the impact of the unforeseen disasters to his colleagues and townsmen but is ignored. Not one to sit dejected in the face of adversity, John takes the help of a couple of people (daughter and granddaughter of author of Prophecies) and accepts the challenge.

The movie beautifully touches and titillates us intellectually.

Nicholas Cage, as always, is a sheer delight to watch.

Review :

Pierre Morel’s Taken was released on January 30th, 2009, and since it’s unveiling it has created a beautiful world of magic realism. People nationwide are flocking to their local theater in order to escape the economic recession and watch something worthwhile.

A former spy finds out that his estranged daughter is being captured for an illegal slave trade operation, and uses all of his perfected skills from the past to get his daughter out of slavery’s grasp.

Bryan, the protagonist, permits his daughter, Kim, to travel to Paris with her friend Amanda. He feels that it is the trip of her dreams, and he would not play a role in preventing her from going. Upon Bryan’s contacting her in Paris, Kim finds that an Albanese gang has laid its tentacles on her and her Amanda and forcibly induced her into human trafficking. The retired spy vows to avenge her daughter’s kidnap and kill the abductors.

The remaining plot is a tireless adventure of a father ready to walk on cinder for saving his daughter and taking revenge on the Albanese gang.

Luk Besson’s screenplay is frighteningly taut and gives us no room to yawn. The entire aura of intrigue is beautifully built up, and Brian’s revenge is worth traveling miles to see.

Liam Neeson, who plays Brian, portrays many different shades of a human face. This thespian uses his powerful acting skills to portray an abject father, a resolve-filled father, a cold avenging father, an emotional father, and lastly a relieved father. Neeson did a brilliant job and has done justice to each shade. While Neeson was a well cast character, Magi Grace as Kim and Katie Cassidy as Amanda could be better cast.

If the heroes have done well, so have the villains. Overall, the movie beautifully builds up menace and lets us live in its shadow until the final credits roll. Pierre Morel is certainly not unknown to the art, and does complete justice the beautiful vision he had.

Review:

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is a phenomenal thriller. This movie takes you back hundreds of years before the other two ‘Underworld’ movies, and shows you how everything began. Yes… that means this is a prequel; something a lot of people don’t find to be very attractive. Despite this fact, this is definitely a must see for all of the vampire and werewolf fans out there.

Seeing as how this is a prequel, you are going to run into a few rough spots along the way. You’ll already know who will be surviving before the movie even begins, which takes away from the movie in some ways. Due to the fact, though, you will also be able to fill in any questions you had about the other two movies. That is what a prequel is meant for anyway, isn’t it?

Rise of the Lycans features amazing visuals and very realistic special effects. The actors are astounding and really define the characters’ personalities. Everything is so fluent you can hardly tell what you are watching isn’t actually real. The blood and gore turns this film into a magical blood bath of astounding illustration.
The movie had a great plot and it really held true to the expectations of the previous Underworld movies. If you didn’t know, you would not be able to tell that this was directed by a different person than the others. The storyline is finely tuned and you will always know what is going on, and enjoying every single second of it.

Overall, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is a great film. I wouldn’t recommend it for children though, as it gets extremely graphic with the blood and gore. Although don’t let the blood and gore deter you from watching this movie, it really adds to the movie and is truly amazing how real it all seems. I am going to have to give this movie a 4.5 out of 5; it truly deserves it.

Review:

Bombing, intense, crazy, action-filled, jumpy are all adjectives to describe this amazing film. This opened the movie up to a lot of expectations within the starting 5 minutes. Casino Royale (the previous James Bond movie) is very similar, in so many ways, with Quantum of Solace. The only clear difference is the speed and background information. To start I will identify Casino Royale’s strengths and weaknesses, then compare them with Quantum of Solace’s.

In the beginning of Casino Royale the film was action-filled from the start yet it explained in a lot of detail the background story to this new James Bond. But in Quantum of Solace’s beginning moments, there was little explanation of a background story and a lot of action from the start. The very minimal background story was almost not efficient enough to occupy capacity of the movie. With the overflow of activity in different environments and little back-bone to the story the movie was lost on the main idea in viewers eyes but upheld itself with massive amounts of action. The end of the movie didn’t follow the pattern of its previous film, which is a good thing, by just continuing with the story accordingly and not throwing in any puzzling pieces to the end of the film. However, both movies had one big ending action event taking place to signify the end of the films.

In many ways Quantum of Solace is a great movie, but I was hoping to be more drawn in with this high hitting James Bond film with a background story then massive amounts of action. If you can easily interpret a film and follow along intentively then this is a great movie choice for you! I will leave you with two last thoughts:

  • Enjoy the amazing action scenes.
  • Bond’s past is catching up with him! (teaser)
